Are you interested in changing the lives of Jewish youth forever? Working at a Jewish summer camp gives you the opportunity to be a friend, teacher, mentor, role model and leader for Jewish children and teens. Those who work at Jewish summer camp bring many things to the table: artistic talent, expertise in Jewish thought and text, sports and coaching skills, and programming know-how. Jewish summer camp staffs form tightly knit communities and leave camp with friends for life.
If you're considering a summer job at a Jewish summer camp, here are a few things for you to consider:
- Location: Many of those that work at Jewish overnight camps tend to work at camps that are within driving distance of where they live, but others fly from across the country to be in a more desirable summer environment.
- Denomination: If you are interested in working within a particular religious movement, such as Reform, Conservative or Orthodox, or a camp with a Labor Zionist mission, or a camp that serves a JCC, there are plenty of camps that will meet your needs.
- Special Needs: If you are interested in working with a special needs population, many camps offer parallel and integrated programs.
- Time Commitment: Even though each camp runs a variety of session lengths, it is likely that if you are looking to work at a Jewish summer camp, that you will be expected to work for the duration of the summer, which is usually 8-9 weeks.
